MP Chartered Architects is delighted to announce that its founder, Martyn Pattie, has been awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM) in the King’s Birthday Honours List 2026 in recognition of his outstanding and longstanding services to the Ongar community.

Born and raised in Ongar, Martyn has dedicated much of his personal and professional life to supporting the town and improving the lives of its residents. Alongside leading a successful architectural practice, he has devoted countless hours to community projects, heritage initiatives and charitable causes that have helped shape and strengthen the local area.

Through his leadership as Chairman of the Ongar Town Forum and his involvement with organisations including the Joseph King Trust, Martyn has played a significant role in delivering projects and initiatives that benefit the community. His commitment to preserving and enhancing Ongar’s built environment has seen him use his architectural expertise to support works at Budworth Hall, Ongar Town Council’s building and Ongar Squash Club, as well as the rebuilding of the High Ongar church wall.

Martyn has also been a passionate advocate for local heritage and the environment. Among his many contributions are the installation of the Edwyn Gilmour memorial bench, celebrating the life of a respected local figure, and the introduction of swift nesting boxes at St Martin’s Church, Budworth Hall and Ongar Town Council’s building to support local wildlife.

Commenting on the award, Martyn said:

“I’m incredibly proud to receive this award. Living and working in Ongar means I can be involved in making improvements to the town I love.”

The British Empire Medal recognises individuals who have made a significant contribution to their local community, and Martyn’s unwavering dedication, generosity and commitment to Ongar over many years make him a truly deserving recipient of this honour.

Everyone at MP Chartered Architects extends their warmest congratulations to Martyn on this well-deserved recognition.
