Two-storey rear extension in the Greenbelt

Project Specifics

Residential Extension

Project Brief

The client appointed MP Chartered Architects to extend their new home in order to create a more generous family living environment. The brief included a master bedroom with views over the landscape, improved open-plan living spaces, and a dedicated cinema room.

Challenge

The site is located in a remote Green Belt location, and the existing house had already been extended, requiring careful consideration of scale, massing and materials to achieve a policy-compliant and sympathetic design.

Solution

We designed a two-storey rear extension to accommodate a master bedroom with a Juliet balcony overlooking the gardens and surrounding fields. At ground floor, internal walls were removed to form a large open-plan kitchen, dining and living area, alongside a new TV and cinema room with large sliding doors opening onto the garden. Brickwork was carefully matched to the existing dwelling, with dark framed windows introduced to provide a contemporary contrast.

Outcome

The extension delivers a cohesive and modern family home that maximises views and natural light. The finished scheme sits comfortably within its Green Belt setting while significantly improving both the layout and quality of the internal spaces.
