Project Brief:

Our clients wanted to transform their home with modern, light-filled extensions that would complement the existing property and give them more space.

The brief included a single-storey side and rear extension to create a large kitchen, utility and WC, with a separate dining area partitioned off using internal Crittall-style doors, allowing flexibility between rooms.

We also designed a double-storey side and part rear extension, featuring a study and library on the ground floor, along with a master bedroom and en-suite above. The master bedroom has access to a private rear terrace set within the feature gable, creating a striking architectural focal point. The clients also wanted to add vaulted ceilings to ensure there was plenty of natural light in the new space.

On the outside, we included a recess in the rear extension to break up the mass, making the rear aspect more attractive. This subtle design feature added depth and definition to the building, helping it blend seamlessly with the rest of the home.

As part of the wider improvements, we modified the front driveway to increase parking.

Challenge

One of the challenges during the design phase was to create a new terrace off the master bedroom, which overlooked the neighbouring property and risked compromising privacy.

Solution

To solve this, a 1.7-metre-high privacy screen was designed and installed, preventing overlooking while maintaining an open, airy feel to the outdoor space.

Outcome

The finished project has transformed the property inside and out. The clients are very happy with the final result and noted how closely it resembles the 3D visuals provided during the design phase. They really appreciate the extra space, improved natural light, and the modern atmosphere that now flows throughout the home. The vaulted ceilings and large glass openings have created bright, welcoming interiors, while the crittall-style doors offer options for open or closed living.

The reconfigured layout upstairs offers a spacious master suite complete with a dressing area, en-suite and access to the terrace, ensuring both privacy and comfort.

On the outside, the crisp white render gives the house a modern edge, while the upgraded front driveway allows for more parking and a more practical entrance.

Overall, the design supports modern family living with a stylish connection to the garden and a strong architectural identity.
