Single Storey Rear Extension

Project Specifics

Residential Extensions

This single-storey extension was designed in order to improve the well-being of a disabled person. The extension was carried out under the Permitted Development guidelines, which meant we didn’t need planning permission. The kitchen before was a long thin room, which was dark and unfriendly. Now, with the extension, it is all open to the garden and allows the user to move between the spaces with ease.

A large part of the original rear wall was removed, and a large beam was installed. To make this easier to construct a small column was inserted into the rooms to break the span of the beam. As you can see from the images this fits in well with the kitchen design. A large glazed lantern and large sliding doors were installed which allow plenty of light into the room and allow fantastic views of the garden.
