MP Chartered Architects transformed the early years section of St. Aubyn’s School in Woodford Green, replacing an outdated single-storey nursery with a dynamic two-storey building. The ground floor now houses a modern nursery and reception area, while the upper floor features two self-contained flats for school staff.

The project aimed to create a nurturing learning environment for young children while ensuring comfortable staff accommodation. The nursery includes two purpose-built classrooms designed to foster creativity, literacy, numeracy, and social interaction, with a focus on sustainability and well-being. Flexible layouts, reading nooks, and covered outdoor play areas encourage both indoor and outdoor exploration.

The first-floor flats provide private, tranquil living spaces with modern amenities, designed to double as potential rental units for additional school income.

Challenges such as limited space, dual functionality, and regulatory compliance were met through innovative space planning and thoughtful design. Natural light, child-safe materials, and a low-maintenance zinc roof contributed to a safe, stimulating environment.

The result is a beautiful, practical space where children begin their educational journey with joy, and staff enjoy modern, comfortable living. MP Chartered Architects delivered a dual-purpose building that seamlessly integrates learning, living, and architectural excellence.
