Norton Glebe, Listed Building, Essex
Project Specifics
This project involved the design and construction of a contemporary glazed and zinc-clad extension to a historic listed building, blending modern architecture with traditional elegance. The aim was to create a striking visual contrast while delivering a versatile, open-plan living space that maximised the natural light and panoramic countryside views.
The extension features a sleek zinc-clad exterior, providing a modern yet durable finish that contrasts beautifully with the original stone facade of the house. Expansive glazing with minimal framing offers uninterrupted views of the surrounding Essex countryside. This open-plan area now serves as the heart of the home, integrating a new kitchen, dining, and living space designed for contemporary living.
In addition to the extension, the project included significant upgrades throughout the ground floor. A new bespoke staircase was installed, alongside a complete refurbishment of the existing layout to improve flow and functionality. The bathrooms were also fully upgraded, combining modern fixtures with classic finishes to enhance the comfort and style of the home.
A large, beautifully constructed patio was added to the rear, perfect for alfresco dining and entertaining. The seamless transition from the indoor living area to the outdoor space offers a perfect setting for enjoying the tranquil countryside views.
