Contemporary New Build Transformation
Project Specifics
The Brief
Our client wanted to completely redevelop a derelict single-storey bungalow, replacing it with a high-spec contemporary home designed to suit their family’s lifestyle. The aim was to maximise the potential of the site by creating a spacious, energy-efficient home that combined great architecture with bespoke interior design.
The Challenge
The existing property was in a state of severe disrepair and was completely uninhabitable. Structural failure, including a leaking roof, damp walls, broken windows, and unsafe flooring, meant refurbishment was not a viable option.
As well as the poor condition of the building, the original layout was outdated and restrictive, and did not meet the needs of everyday family living. Therefore, the project required a full demolition, careful site preparation, and a complete rethink of both the architecture and internal layout.
A well thought out approach to structure, performance, and spatial design was needed in order to deliver a high-end, contemporary home on the footprint of a previously constrained bungalow site.
The Solution
The scheme began with the full demolition of the existing structure, including the safe removal of utilities and hazardous materials, followed by site clearance and preparation for construction.
A robust structural solution was implemented through reinforced concrete piling, ground beams, and a block-and-beam flooring system to ensure long-term stability and performance.
A building design strategy was implemented to prioritise energy efficiency, incorporating high levels of airtightness and cellulose insulation to improve thermal performance and reduce energy demand. This was complemented by the inclusion of an MVHR system and a Samsung air source heat pump, ensuring the home performs efficiently year-round.
Architecturally, the design of the house balances a light-toned brick façade with contrasting dark cladding elements, creating a clean and contemporary appearance. Large openings and carefully considered proportions maximise natural light and enhance the overall presence of the building.
The home has been designed with practicality in mind. A bespoke kitchen with integrated Siemens appliances forms the heart of the home, featuring a large island and hidden utility room. The living area boasts a custom media wall with integrated lighting and hidden services, creating a seamless and modern focal point.
Throughout the home, bespoke elements such as walk-in wardrobes, feature wall panelling, and integrated lighting have been used to create a cohesive and high-quality interior. The bathrooms and en-suites are luxurious, spa-like spaces which include freestanding baths, full-height marble finishes, and high-end sanitaryware.
The Result
The completed project is a striking contemporary home that bears no resemblance to the original derelict bungalow. The new home combines a clean exterior with a comfortable, welcoming interior.
The property not only meets modern standards of energy efficiency and performance but also provides a series of well-considered living spaces tailored to the client’s lifestyle. From the spectacular double-height entrance to the bespoke kitchen and luxurious private suites, every element has been designed to meet our client’s needs.
The result is a stunning, high-end home that that brings new life to a previously overlooked site.
