New Building Regulations 2022

2023-06-13 13:18:24

All New Homes Must Produce 30% fewer emissions than current standards.

When you’re carrying out building work you are responsible for making sure that that project complies with certain legal rules and regulations.

From the 15th of June 2022, current building regulations in England have changed to improve energy efficiency in both residential and non-residential buildings.

These alterations are part of a longer-term plan to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 when we expect the ‘Future Homes and Building Standard’ to be introduced.

The UK Government is taking steps now to reduce current carbon emissions, and as housing is a major contributor, measures need to be introduced to help increase energy efficiency.

The changes relate to Approved Documents F, L, and O and a new Approved Document S and apply to new builds in both residential and non-residential buildings as well as home renovations and extensions.

The key aims of the changes are to:

  • Reduce emissions in residential buildings
  • Prevent overheating in new builds
  • Reduce emissions in non-commercial buildings
  • Improve ventilation
